Kids Lead Screening Program.
On Oct. 20, 2007, The Hourigan, Kluger & Quinn, PC, Foundation for Children’s Advocacy, also known as HKQ Kids,
hosted a free lead-screening program in Kingston,
Pa., for 48 area children ages six months to 7 years
old.
The free testing was conducted by the Pinnacle Health Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, in the parking lot of
the law firm of Hourigan, Kluger &
Quinn. Pinnacle's mobile testing program is funded through a grant from the state Department of Health.
The testing was free to participating
families.
HKQ Kids took the
initiative to provide the testing
program in response to a rash of news
reports and recalls involving
lead-contaminated toys and other
children's products imported from China.
Prior to the screening program, HKQ Kids
Spokeswoman Attorney Michelle Quinn
appeared on WYOU-TV Interactive News to
discuss the issue of lead contamination
in Chinese-made toys and children's
products. (SEE video clips below or

Lead can cause health problems, learning disabilities and even death in children. A blood-lead level higher than 10 can affect a child’s ability to learn. A level of 150 or higher can be deadly. The
program conducted by HKQ Kids and Pinnacle determined if
any of the children tested had elevated
blood-lead levels and recommended
appropriate follow-up care with each
individual family.
To keep the children amused
at the lead-screening program, HKQ Kids
also provided a clown and asked the
Kingston Fire Department to bring a fire
truck for the children to explore.
